A NOTE FROM
PRINCIPAL THORNBURG

Hello and Welcome to Danville!

I am honored to serve as the Junior High/High School Principal at Danville Community School District. This marks my sixth year in the district—four years as the elementary principal and I am now entering my second year at the secondary level. With over 30 years of experience in education, I am deeply committed to supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students.

What I enjoy most about working with junior high and high school students is the opportunities to help them build leadership skills, discover their unique talents and passions, and prepare for life-long success beyond graduation. I am committed to fostering a collaborative school culture where students thrive and staff feel empowered to grow professionally.

I am a proud Southeast Iowa native, originally from Wapello. I earned my undergraduate degrees in Elementary Education and Spanish Teaching from the University of Northern Iowa, along with a minor in English as a Second Language. I also hold a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Missouri–St. Louis and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Viterbo University.

Before coming to Danville, I served in a variety of educational roles in several districts, including Northside Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas; Columbus Community School District in Columbus Junction, Iowa; and Wapello Community School District in my hometown. My experience spans elementary and high school teaching, instructional coaching, and curriculum leadership.

Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, reading, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, watching sporting events, and spending time with my family and our mini goldendoodle. My husband, Roger, is the 6–12 principal at Mediapolis Community School District. We have three children: Reese, a University of Iowa graduate in Computer Science; Regan, currently pursuing a Master’s in Education at the University of Iowa; and Maycie, who will be a high school senior this year. We will also welcome a daughter-in-law this year! Our son Reese will be getting married to Danville's elementary music teacher, Shelby Mutter, in January.

I look forward to partnering with you to ensure a successful and rewarding school year for your child here at Danville! Together, let’s continue to build a school community where every student feels valued, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential.

Go Bears!
