This past weekend's wind storm has taken out the flashing light system on Main Street in front of the school. Due to the age of the system, the parts to fix the lights are not readily available. Therefore, for the time being, we will be using a stop sign that will sit in the middle of the crosswalk. Please be mindful of students crossing Main Street during the before and after school hours. The stop sign will remain up on Main Street until the lights are able to be fixed. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Danville Elementary had some special guests today! The FLY Dance Company from Houston, Texas put on a dance show for our elementary students. The group used their dance skills to entertain the students, while discussing the history of dance and delivering the important messages that everyone can be a leader, that we must remember to treat others with kindness, and that everyone must work together to stop bully behavior. We would like to thank the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center for the donation of this free, energetic program for our students.

Please see the message below from Kalen Henderson and Studio K, concerning our elementary school pictures and picture retake day. We appreciate your patience as you wait for your child’s school pictures. However, the turnaround of our orders isn’t moving as quickly as it has in the past, therefore we will be moving Danville Elementary School Picture Retake Day to November 4th. That will give you plenty of time to evaluate your child’s portraits and make any necessary haircut appointments! We anticipate delivery of the picture packets hopefully later this week or early next week. Thanks again for your patience! —Kalen@StudioK

Recently, three of Mrs. Blanchard's students organized a JH/HS food drive for the Danville Food Pantry (located inside the First Baptist Church). Because of their hard work and the generosity of our students and staff, the Danville JH/HS was able to collect 336 food items and $40 for the pantry - way to go!! Effective Monday, May 17, 2021 Danville CSD will be adjusting our Return To Learn Plan which includes the most recent IDPH and IDHS recommendations. While COVID-19 positive and symptomatic children should be excluded, exposed children should no longer be required to stay home, regardless of mask usage. When there is a positive case, parents will be given information around the exposed case in order to make their own informed decisions regarding risks. If your student tests positive for COVID-19, the following will be required to return: 10 days after symptoms start and 24 hours with no fever and improved symptoms OR 10 days after positive test (if no symptoms). · It will be left up to the parent to make the decision if they want their child to continue to wear a face covering for reasons that make sense to their family or that child’s individual health condition.

Do you have friends or family looking for Preschool opportunities for their child for the 2021-2022 school year? Danville Elementary still has openings in our 4 Year Old Preschool classes for next year. Danville does not charge a monthly tuition for our Preschool classes, just a one time $45 access fee. Our morning and afternoon sessions make the schedule very flexible for parents. In addition, students do not have to live in the Danville School District to attend and parents do not have to complete Open Enrollment papers if you live out of the district. This is a wonderful opportunity for all 4 year old children to gain exposure to school and learn many basic reading and math skills. Contact Alice in the Elementary Office at 319-392-4221 with questions or to hold your child's spot in next year's classes. Prospective students and parents can also attend the Preschool Open House Night on Thursday, May 6th from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. for an opportunity to visit the Preschool classrooms and meet the staff.

Parents and Students, , We will be doing the ISASP testing over the next couple of weeks. We have included a schedule for the testing dates and times and would appreciate limited absences during the scheduled testing times. We understand that there are pre-planned appointments that cannot be changed, however having the majority of students in testing, without interruption is the best course of action. ISASP testing is for students who are grades 7-11, therefore, any seniors, do not have to be here during testing times. We will have a location for seniors to be supervised if they have a need to attend during the testing times. Any juniors with a release during the testing times are required to attend testing. Testing times are as follows: Monday, April 12th 9:30 -11:00 for all students 7th-11th grade. Tuesday, April 13th, 9:30 - 11:00 for all students, 7th - 11th grade. Wednesday, April 14th - No Testing Thursday, April 15th, 10:30 - 12:20 for all students 7th - 11th grade. Friday, April 16th - No Testing Tuesday, April 20th, 8th grade testing will occur during your students Science class (2nd or 5th hour depending on the section). Students who have a 7th block Science will test during 4th hour. 10th grade testing will occur during your students Biology class (3rd or 5th hour, depending on the section). Students who have an 8th block Biology will test during 4th hour. This has also been sent as an email to all parents and students of Junior/ Senior High.

This is only a precautionary alert for parents and guardians. The Danville CSD staff will be administered the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, March 3rd. With 74 staff receiving the second dose it is possible the District could encounter a high rate of absenteeism due to the second round side effects. We are asking for all parents and guardians to be prepared for either on-line instruction for grades 6-12 or paper packets for K-5 for either Thursday, March 4th and/or Friday, March 5th. No matter what happens, paper packets will accompany the student’s home on Wednesday. The call to virtual/packet work will be made as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this might bring to families but this is just another mitigation to get all of us through these trying times.

On January, 7, the Governor issued a new proclamation lifting the attendance restrictions for high school sports. However, according to the new directive, spectators still must ensure at least 6 feet of physical distance and are required to wear a mask. For tonights' basketball game (January8) with Van Buren we will still stay with our household only pass list. We are examining future procedures in regards to our gym capacity to see if we have the ability to allow more fans for our remaining home games. We will keep you updated. In regards to the boy's away game on Saturday, January 9 with Hillcrest Academy, they will also be allowing only household members to that game. The Varsity game starts at 4:30 followed by the JV game. The JV game is only one-half. Mondays JH GAME VS WB will follow the same guidelines of a Household list. Dr. Ward, Mr. Lawrence, Mr. Soukup

State Parent/Guardian Technology Access Survey Danville CSD Parents and Families, The State of Iowa would like to ask you about technology access for your household. This information will help in planning for next school year, should learning from home need to occur because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We understand that many of you have already filled out a survey that we sent out earlier. Our district encourages you to complete this survey so your technology barriers are known to the State. • The survey should take less than five minutes to complete. • The survey only needs to be taken one time for your entire household. • In your responses, only include students who will be in grades preschool through twelfth grade, or participating in post-secondary education, during the 2020-21 school year. • There is a drop-down in the upper left corner of the survey to change the survey language from English to Spanish. If your household needs the survey in another language, contact Superintendent Thomas Ward at thomas.ward@danvillecsd.org Please click on the link below to take the short survey about the learners in your household. The survey will be available through June 24th. http://bit.ly/iowatechsurvey If you have any difficulties while completing the survey, please email support_iowa@panoramaed.com, or contact our Superintendent Thomas Ward at thomas.ward@danvillecsd.org or Technology Coordinator Lucas Gourley at lucas.gourley@danvillecsd.org. With this virus holding a grip on many of us, it has made the Danville Community School District take a look on how we need to deliver services to ALL our students. Many reports express the concern of this reoccurring in the future with the possibility of more closures. Through our Technology Coordinator, Lucas Gourley, the District has developed a survey concerning high quality internet in each of our student's homes not just having a "hot spot" location available. We are asking each household with a student or students to please fill out the survey linked at the bottom or email your responses to connectivity@danvillecsd.org. Connectivity in rural Iowa is a major issue of the inequality we face not only in education but in all walks of life. Over these past months we have seen families needing to work from home and at the same time try to provide online education for their students. This is an issue that needs to be addressed by our state and local governments, and not from any local school district. Thank you for your assistance in this project and always "Go Bears". Yours in education, Dr. Ward, Superintendent Lucas Gourley, Technology Coordinator Google Survey Link - https://forms.gle/Yw4VACpwZmxMAeCz8

The Danville Community School District will be closed through April 10th, with our first day back on Monday, April 13th. The Iowa Athletic Union and Association has suspended all practices and no coaches contact until the 13th. This four week closure could be extended if circumstances warrant. During this time of anxiety and uncertainty we want to thank you for working with us as we navigate this health crisis. Tomorrow our teaching staff will be working on an education plan for all students in the Danville CSD. We will schedule times that this information, either hardcopies or online access will be available. Also, for those students that need to pick up computers, times will be set-a-side for that. If you have questions concerning the education process, direct those to the building principal. All other questions can be directed to me directly at Thomas.ward@danvillecsd.org or 319-392-4223 Ex 309. Abby Tuttle, Food Service Director, is working on a plan to get bag breakfast/lunches out to those students requesting them. At this time the plan would be to start on Monday, March 23rd with three pickup points. One at the school and the other two at the two designated pickup/drop off points in Middletown. If you would like to be counted in this please call the Elementary Office at 319-392-4221.

As we set our sites on a long weekend, I want to take this opportunity to thank all those for a great start to the 2019-2020 school year. A new school year presents many opportunities for various beginnings and this year is no exception. As I look around our site, we are witnessing the foundation of our future with this construction and the changes being made in the education of the students. With everything that is taking place we will be faced with many challenges but I am sure we will meet them and move on. As we approach our first three-day weekend of this year it represents a holiday that was signed into law on June 28, 1894, by President Grover Cleveland at the height of the Industrial Revolution. It is my feelings that this day is for all of us; housewives, farmers, teachers, business owners, law enforcement, firefighters and every single individual that contributes to society. This weekend symbolizes the end of summer for many of us and is celebrated with parties and family get-togethers. You all deserve this time so be safe, have fun, relax and I will see everyone next month! Yours in education and GO BEARS!!!

Attention Danville Male Students and Parents: United States law says men must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. That means men are required to register with Selective Service sometime during the 30 days before their 18th birthday, on their 18th birthday, and the following 29 days after their 18th birthday – that is a 60-day registration period. Danville male students that are 18 or will be turning 18 during this school year, are encouraged to register with Selective Service to remain eligible for federal student financial aid, state-funded student financial aid, federal employment, state employment, job training under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, security clearances, and U.S. citizenship for immigrant men. Apply online using your social security number at www.sss.gov and click on the "Register" button. It should take about 5 minutes. If you do not have a social security card go to www.sss.gov and click on the "Fillable Registration Card" and follow those instructions. Selective Service accepts early registrations as young as 17 years and 3 months.
