The countdown is on. The 2019-2020 school year is right around the corner. This is a big year for the District and with that comes a few changes to the norm to keep things running as smooth as possible.
Something new we are rolling out today is on-line registration. For those that prefer to register in person please stop in August 6th or 8th from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and complete the process in either office.
At the Special Board Meeting on July 19th the Danville CSD Board of Education has given approval to all nine bid packages for the renovation and new construction at the school. After a rebid of Package 4 (General Construction) the District will have the opportunity to do what it has set out to do, along with the alternates of bleachers in the high school gym, renovation of the junior high locker rooms and upgrades to the high school parking lot.
For the next 18 months staff, students, parents and patrons will encounter some inconveniences associated with parking and entrances. The high school parking lot is currently closed due to the addition of parking spaces and will reopen before the start of school. For now, I encourage everyone to use the elementary parking lot and utilize the entrance closest to the elementary office. The two high school entrances will be closed with the main entrance for the students and activity events being the entrance leading to the shop and art rooms. A new sidewalk will be constructed from the gate at the shop going to the entrance and because of this we will be changing the protocol for picking up junior high and high school students. Instead of utilizing the JH/HS office we will be asking parents to access the elementary office and the student will come there to be dismissed.
Next week the circle drive will be closing on Monday (July29th) to allow for the lowering of the new storm drain. If the weather cooperates it will reopen on August 5th.
The renovation and new construction will be a two-phase approach. The new construction will begin now and the renovation will move inside at the end of the 2019-2020 school year.
Again, the District apologizes for these inconveniences and the ultimate outcome is a better learning environment for our kids.
