It seems time goes by rather quickly right after the 4th of July. We hope everyone had a safe celebration and is having a restful summer. Here at the District our custodial staff has been feverishly working on cleaning, waxing and moving classrooms for the preparation to the start of school on August 23rd.
Here is an update on the anticipated construction. Bids were open on the 27th and the Board approved eight of the nine packages. The Board elected to rebid package #4 (General Construction) with those being due by 2:00 p.m. on July 18th and opened immediately in the High School Media Center. The Board will hold a Special Meeting on July 19th at 5:30 p.m. in the High School Media Center to approve bid package #4.
We are also in the process of air conditioning the high school gym. This project had to be redesigned and it is still our hope to have this up and running for the start of school. This project is being funded from the Capital Projects and is not a part of the bond issue.
We would like to make all parents and patrons aware of some inconveniences that will be happening over the next 18 months due to the construction. First and fore-most the parking will be limited in the high school lot, along with the main entrance to the office will be closing. Everyone will need to enter through the Activity side of the building. There will be very little disruption at the elementary end of the building. Due to needing the rooms where the 4th grade has been previously they have been moved to the elementary choir room and the 6th grade room next to the choir room. The elementary choir will move (for this year) to the HS/JH Choir Room. The teacher Work Room has been converted to a class room to house the added section of 1st grade. One end of the Elementary Library has been converted into a Teacher’s Work Area.
We are in the process of upgrading the District webpage to make it more user friendly and to house more of the needed information for parents and patrons.
Registration will be here before you know it and changes will be coming. It is our hope to move to an on-line process. As we all know with change, we will face some challenges. First you will need to be able to go onto JMC parent portal to register instead of filling out all the forms by hand. We are also working on being able to pay all registration fees, lunch, and misc. fees like lost library books online. This changes means we will be going from PayForIt to PaySchools Central. We will still have two days August 6th & 8th from 8am - 4pm for those who do not have access to JMC or that need assistance into this new process. Also, the local stores have the supply list and they are on the Facebook page.
Again, we cannot reiterate enough to all that we will be encountering changes. All we ask is to be patient with us as we go through this year.
Have a great rest of the summer!
