Danville Elementary is located at 419 South Main in Danville, Iowa. We are part of a K-12 building and have an enrollment of approximately 300 students in grades K-6. We offer students and parents a developmental and safe learning environment in a small-town “community school” setting. Our small class sizes and “team teaching” enable our staff to meet the individual needs of our students giving them both support and challenges.
By having a modern, air conditioned school we are able to offer many year round programs for Danville students. We offer a free summer enrichment program for all K-6 students and a remedial program for many of our children who need that extra help. These programs assist in expanding the education of the Danville Elementary students.
Danville Elementary is truly a community school district. Individuals of all ages are involved in the educational process of our students. Juniors and seniors at Danville High School may earn credit by spending a class period each day for a semester volunteering in classrooms as student assistants. Community volunteers, such as parents and grandparents, also spend time in the classrooms working with the students and assisting the teachers. These volunteers also plan and organize activities and fundraisers to support educational endeavors at Danville Elementary School.
The Danville Elementary faculty is committed to working with every child as they develop basic skills in reading, writing, and math. We continually strive for teaching improvement by using many new and innovative strategies.
Welcome to Danville Elementary!
We are excited you are either considering our school or have already chosen to make Danville your home. We feel strongly that our school and community has a lot to offer families seeking a safe, nurturing, and educationally sound school system.
Our elementary complex includes our new preschool/day care facilities. This great addition enables us to provide families with an Early Childhood program that readies our three and four years olds for the rigors of kindergarten. Our program uses a state endorsed curriculum and is taught by Early Childhood endorsed instructors. The day care serves our preschool students and is open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to help meet the needs of our parents’ work schedules.
The rest of the building houses our K-6 students. One of our school’s guiding principles is: “We believe that our educational program provides a solid foundation, preparing students for the future.” Obviously, that foundation has to be built in the elementary and we feel our friendly and conscientious staff does a great job. Our philosophy has always been to work hard on the basics. With the stakes so high today with the “No Child Left Behind” legislation, we concentrate heavily on reading, writing, and arithmetic. Our bimonthly staff development focuses on new strategies that can be used in these academic areas.
From phonemic awareness, QAR, guided reading, novel groups, and cooperative learning to Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math, TAG, and team teaching, we hope to provide each student with learning styles and strategies that will motivate them to excel.
For additional information, please feel free to call our elementary office anytime at 319-392-4221 and ask for Sherri. We would be glad to send you our handbook or schedule an appointment to tour the school and sit down to answer any questions you might have. We appreciate you giving Danville Elementary serious consideration. Go Bears!
