End of the Year Info for High School

End of the Year News for High School (Grades 9-11)

There have been many questions centered around the end of the school year….What is the last day for students? When are semester exams?  Will the students on the Florida trip have to make things up?  I hope this answers many of those questions for you.

The last day for students is Monday, June 3rd

Semester Exams will be taken by ALL students on Thursday, May 23rd and Friday, May 24th.  We will run those two days on a semester test schedule.  Semester tests will be completed before students leave on the Florida trip.

The week of May 28-31 will serve as an enrichment week.  (4 day week due to Memorial Day).  June 3rd will be the last day for students. Teachers will use this as a day for students to turn enrichment work in, present projects, etc. These 5 days are MANDATORY FOR ALL STUDENTS!

Florida students and others students with previously scheduled vacations that have already been cleared through the office will receive the work they will be required to complete for the enrichment week on Tuesday, May 21st.  Some teachers may give it earlier if they choose to do so.

Spring Conferences:  A reminder that the JH/HS will NOT hold scheduled conferences this spring.  All JH/HS students will be in school on Friday, March 1st!  Please note that this is different than the elementary.  If parents would like to meet with teachers, please contact the teacher(s) directly by email or phone.

Bear Facts

A few helpful “facts” about the high school and upcoming events……

January 2013

Doors:  The Danville Community School District will begin locking all exterior doors during the school day on Monday, January 21, 2013.  Detailed information about the new procedures to enter the building during the school day will be outlined on the district website:  www.danvillecsd.org.  With all new procedures comes the potential for frustration and inconvenience.  Thanks for your patience and support!

Report Cards:  Report cards will be sent home with students mid-week.  We initially handed out report cards this past Friday, but realized there were mistakes in the calculation of semester grades for some teachers.  A message update will be sent out when corrected report cards are in the hands of students.

High School Hoops Week:  We will be celebrating Hoops Week in the high school this upcoming week, January 21st-25th!  Dress up days are as follows:

Monday:  Favorite Sports Team

Tuesday:  Pajama Day

Wednesday:  Wacky Hair

Thursday:  Mis-Match Day  (Boy’s and Girl’s basketball at home against Cardinal.  Wear Camo to the game!)

Friday:  Red T-shirts to support Austin Haines (Boy’s basketball at home against Maharishi.  Wear Austin t-shirts to the game!)

Spring Conferences:  The Jr./Sr. High Staff will NOT hold conferences this spring.   The attendance at these conferences has been low over the past several years.  What does this mean for students and parents?

1.                     All Jr./Sr. High Students will have school on Friday, March 1st.   Normally, we exchange a school day in order to meet with parents during evening conferences.  This “flex day” is always held on the Friday of conference week.   Since we won’t be meeting with parents, this “flex day” is not needed.  (Note: This is different from the elementary school!)

2.                     Teachers are always available to meet with parents.  Please email or call the teacher to discuss your student’s progress or to set up a meeting.

Let's make second semester the best it can be!

Attention Juniors and Seniors AND Parents:  There will be two events on the evening of Tuesday, November 6th, that will help you plan for your future.

If you have any questions, see Mrs. Kirkland.

Let's combat bullying with Rachel's Legacy!  Tuesday, November 13th all students in grades 7-12 will travel to Burlington to attend the Rachel's Legacy assembly.  This is a follow up assembly to the Rachel's Challenge event we had two years ago.  We will board busses around 9:15 here in Danville and then travel to Burlington for a 10:00 assembly.   The message of the Rachel’s Challenge/Legacy Program is to practice kindness and compassion toward others.

How can parents participate?  An evening assembly will take place for parents and the community!  Please try to attend this assembly.  It will be held in the BHS Gym at 7:00 p.m.
